Other Uses for the Christmas Tree

What other uses can the Christmas tree serve after the Christmas season is over? Read more...
THE AFTER LIFE OF A CHRISTMAS TREE

One of the considerations of enjoying a freshly grown Christmas tree is what to do with the tree after the Christmas season is over.

Place the tree in your backyard as a temporary haven for birds (might dig the hole before the ground really freezes) or put the tree is a large container and place it in the area of the birdfeeder. The birds will enjoy the tree and you will enjoy the birds. Be careful to not place the tree so close to the feeder that cats can use the foliage as a hiding place to catch and feed on the birds.

Use the branches to hold suet bags, smear peanut butter with seeds on pine cones and hang the pine cones on the tree branches.

Cut off the branches and use as mulch around other trees or in the landscape. The branches will add an interesting appearance to the already established trees.

Use the boughs to make other decorations. One can extend the Holiday season with other decorations especially outside the house area.

Use the tree trunk as a pole for climbing beans. Prune off all of the branches and keep the trunk as a pole for the garden to allow vine crops to grow upward and create another eye appeal.

Save the tree until spring and chip the tree with other limbs as you do your tree maintenance.

Give the tree to a wildlife organization to be used for fish habitat or other wildlife habitat.
