County Employees Take Computer Training through University of Nebraska Bit Mobile.
Over twenty Dixon County employees participated in at least one session of a week long training to enhance their computer and Internet skills. The workshops were taught by Carroll Welte, UNL Extension Educator with assistance from Sandy Preston and Dewey Teel.
The workshops are made possible to local officials through the University of Nebraska Extension eGovernment program. It is designed to help staff keep abreast of new technology that they can use in their daily office operations.
Workshops focused on word processing, spreadsheets, email, and the World Wide Web. Included was graphics, instant messaging, and learning about local government web sites and how they are being used. Each workshop was tailored to fit the needs of the participants.
The program is made possible through grant money from the Nebraska State Records Bureau. This is the third year it was funded and UNL Extension Educators have taught it in over 50 counties across Nebraska.
The workshops were held in a mobile computer lab which is available to teach computer classes across the state. It has 14 computer stations with Internet access.
These workshops were supported by the Dixon County Commissioners.
